I was one of them too. Conversations were always about work and how terrible their jobs were. They wanted to find new ones to be happy. Most of them, after a change of jobs, were still unhappy. That usually set in about 3 months or so into the new job. I was also one of them. The cycle then repeats itself, in most cases. And these were all people in highly paid jobs. The truth is, chances are high they would never be happy, because they are always looking for the perfect job. In fact, while they might not necessarily dislike the nature of the work they are doing (eg IT, accounting etc), they certainly do not like it either. They are not passionate about it. They do it for that monthly sustenance paycheck, or for the money. And because they previously went into that particular industry believing that was where the money was, and where the future of the world laid. What disturbs me each time is not the marketing hype (I think it is generally unavoidable), but people jumping onto the bandwagon without carefully evaluating if the industry suits them.
